Why MacConkey Agar is considered as both Selective and Differential Bacterial growth media?

MacConkey agar is a bacterial growth medium is considered as both selective and differential agar plate. Entereobacteriace family and Pseudomonas spp are primarily isolated through this media. Gram positive bacteria are unable to grow here because of it's some special features based on the chemical use.
